School Plan for Continuous Growth 2020-2023 (year 3)

School Mission: St. Hilda is a place for learning, sharing and caring for one another. As God's gift, we encourage and support the sharing of our uniqueness. We foster lifelong learning, mutual respect, and dignity. St. Hilda Catholic Junior High School will strive to develop each student's Spirit, Mind and Body by encouraging the development of: Christian Attitude: Care and concern and acceptance of others and self as encouraged by our Catholic Faith and as symbolized through celebrations. We strive to have a safe and caring school environment that recognizes Christian service. Academic Excellence: Placing pride and best effort in our school work with the assistance of new technology Extra-curricular Involvement: Participation in extracurricular activities of the social, physical, intellectual, creative, and spiritual nature: sports teams, intramurals, leadership club, social justice project and charitable fundraisers. .
School Vision: At St. Hilda, our vision is to prepare our students for a rapidly changing world by instilling in them critical thinking skills, a global perspective, and a respect for core values of honesty, loyalty, perseverance, and compassion.
School Charism: We at St Hilda's are placed here to serve, "Hawks Helping Hands". Hawks have excellent eyesight, to see the needs of others. Hawks display perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles. Hawks work together, allowing everyone to be more successful, staying together helps preserve our most precious of resources. We work together in perseverance knowing that in obstacles we find strength. Hawks share resources with others because in building other’s strength we strengthen ourselves. Finally, Hawks lead by example, bringing all others to know Christ through our words and deeds. Our patron, St. Hilda who was a woman of great energy, was also a skilled administrator and teacher. She gained such a reputation for wisdom that kings and princes sought her advice. However, she also had a concern for all people. St. Hilda recognized the gifts of all and encouraged them to develop those unique talents.

Priority: Growing in Faith
Our students and staff will learn and live the Word of God through worship, witness, and service.
Key Strategies:
F.1 Re-engage families, parishes, and Catholic organizations to provide opportunities for growing in faith.
Actions we will take
The key phrase in our charism is, Hawks helping hands. For the upcoming year, we will continue to celebrate school religious celebrations with our parish and within our school. COVID kept us away from the parish until spring of 2022 and we wish to get back to having more involvement at and with the parish. Student involvement will play an integral role in planning and organizing our celebrations and school activities. St Hilda’s worship band offers a chance for students to share their musical talents while practicing their faith. Celebrating import school events, such as our St Hilda feast day, allows us to continue to deepen the relationships between religion and everyday life with our students. Being visible within our community, including business to local seniors’ homes and inviting them into our school as special guest speakers helps unite our students to our community. Social justice plays an important part in what a Hawk represents. Events and fundraisers such as Terry fox, food and hygiene bag drive, hot chocolate for hope, random acts of kindness and Food Bank Fundraiser are just a few of the many initiatives that help students understand that God calls us each by name to serve one another with love as Jesus did.

November Review:
We are pleased to announce that we are continually moving forward on our goals. St. Hilda celebrated mass at St. Theresa Parish and will continue to have St. Thersa Parish Staff do weekly visits. Furthermore, we continue to focus on daily gospel readings and reflections for students during morning announcements. We are focused on maintaining and supporting students' mental health through various activities. We have held one mental health day so far and students had many excellent activities to participate in, including a student dance! The first for many due to COVID. Semester one-end activity is being planned for January 31st. Our SAC meetings have been well attended and there is much enthusiasm and support for our school. Staff is working on targeted strategies to boost reading comprehension in all core subjects. Our staff participated in a team building and wellness activity. Healthy Hunger Hunger has been successful and we continue to organize these for our students. Students have used the student council platform to share positive feedback and ideas that will be implemented in the coming weeks.
