November Review:
As we reflect on the past three months, our school community truly embraces faith and sacramentality. As a school family we learn and live the Word of God daily through worship, witness and service with a blend of Indigenous spirituality and Catholicity. We continue to grow in faith as we celebrate weekly Mass and daily prayer together. Father Glenn models Christ’s shepherding in his visits and leading weekly liturgies for our students and staff. He and Dawn Nowicki, the Pastoral Associate, attended our Meet the Teacher event with a focus on sacramental preparation. Father Glenn welcomed parents and families to the Church to re-engage themselves in Christ. Our school community participated in a Food Bank drive and a clothing drive to ensure that all families are meeting their basic needs. Staff lunch fundraisers have also contributed to the school nutrition program, which also encourages guests of the school to participate. BCR continues to work in partnership with sister Catholic schools such as Mary Hanley and Archbishop MacDonald High School as they donated food and clothing to the school community pantry and school community closet. During term 1, our school staff put forth effort to complete all provincial screeners to increase student ability to target teaching and improve learning. Our school community is blessed to have a Reading team that is funded by Jordan’s Principle where all students are able to access literacy support with a focus on phonics and phonemic awareness. School staff have been accessing, planning, implementing, and receiving professional development through teacher carousels with Divisional Consultants, as well as the implementation of new curriculum, to increase teacher capacity and optimal learning. The parent community was also included with a review of the School Assurance Dashboard which shares student growth developing to their fullest potential. As we continue to foster optimal learning, our school community continues to deepen understanding of Respect in the Workplace, maintaining a growth mindset, ensuring that all are treated with fairness, respect and dignity. A new focus has been implemented daily during our Morning Assemblies/Announcements that bring to light mindfulness, wellness, traditional teachings and faith for all. While we continue to live through a trauma informed lens, we bring forth daily humor by sharing a Joke of the Day written by staff and students. The school community continues to engage in good stewardship by: fostering effective relationships with parents/caregivers, networking with community agencies and partners ensuring reciprocity with all community stakeholders, and also bringing in-person volunteers to support student success. Our school community is grateful for all who contribute to our students well-being and overall success in a Christ-like environment.
