School Plan for Continuous Growth 2020-2023 (year 2)

School Mission: As a St. Kateri School Community, we are committed to providing children with a quality Catholic Education which inspires personal growth and fosters a love of God by enriching the lives of others..
School Vision: With Christ as our teacher, St. Kateri welcomes and supports all learners. We are dedicated in providing an innovative learning environment where students are encouraged to explore and develop their whole self.
School Charism: With St. Kateri and Christ as our models we live and share our light through…Leadership, Innovation, Diversity, Passion and Community.

Priority: Growing in Faith
Our students and staff will learn and live the Word of God through worship, witness, and service.
Key Strategies:
F.1 Empower students and staff to express and share their gifts from God and explore the school’s charism and its importance.
F.4 Provide formation opportunities for students and staff that further their participation in our faith and enable them to discern the presence of God in their lives.
F.5 Engage families, parishes, and Catholic organizations to provide opportunities for growing in faith.
Actions we will take
Our Charism, “With St. Kateri and Christ as our models we live and share our light through…Leadership, Innovation, Diversity, Passion and Community”. We believe that each of our students has gifts and talents to share; to let their light shine. We encourage our students to fail forward and to take a risk in the learning- to ask questions, to be creative, to be innovative, to wonder. We create opportunities for our students to share their gifts, whether it be during a Flex Session, in Leadership, Athletics or Academics. We celebrate our student’s achievement, during broadcast, in class or during celebrations. Our Social Justice Projects will empower our students to experience our charism in various areas of interest. We will capture these projects in our newsletter, on our Instagram and Twitter accounts and submit them for the Division’s Social Justice Report. As a staff it is important for us to reconnect with our parent community; providing opportunities for our parents to continue to engage with school celebrations and school activities. Our parents are always welcomed and invited to our celebrations, both at school or at our parish Corpus Christi - through a message from their children, our newsletter, our message board in front of our school or a written invitation. St. Kateri continues to meet with our neighbouring schools as a Corpus Christi Family of schools. As a staff the weekly Parish visits are vital to support our students and strengthen Home, Parish and School connections as well as encouraging sacramental preparation. We created a Lily Garden, an outdoor, reflective space, a chapel area that is open to everyone to use, to go and pray. As a school family and through our Charism, we emphasize the importance of our Faith and embracing social justice, knowing that our actions can and will make a difference.

S.6 Continue programs and enhanced academic and cultural supports for all students that lead to successful transitions and encourage life-long learning.
Actions we will take
At St. Kateri ensuring that the individual needs of our students are met is vital. Many varied supports are in place for our students; however, we are cognizant that this year will require even greater supports due to the situation we have been faced with. We will begin with reconnecting with our students, building strong and trusting relationships. Our initiatives will focus on Literacy and Numeracy. We will continue to delve deeper into the initiatives that we began in January. Five Pillars of Literacy - Reading Comprehension- a new program for Kindergarten to Grade 6 that is a comprehensive reading assessment. Our staff will be using the same standard assessment for our students and common language will be used. This assessment will help us cluster our students so that we can target individual areas. Through the information gathered we can create student groupings in order to improve the reading comprehension and fluency of all students which will drive our instruction. Our teachers will work with our Learning Coach and Literacy Consultant. Our staff will delve deeper into the MathUp numeracy program. The program examines the foundational pieces that teachers need to know about students in order to progress them along in their learning. Our teachers will skillfully engage our students in numeracy, using informative data to drive instruction and help student achieve greater success.

November Review:
We continue to focus on our plan that was created toward the end of the last school year. Moving forward we have changed some of the language to account for events being virtual due to the pandemic, and included more resources we are accessing. This is a transition year and we are simply looking to build upon the really great things that are already happening at St. Kateri.
February Review:
As a school community we continue to work toward the plan that was created earlier on. As mentioned previously, this is a year of transition and we are welcoming a more 'return to normal' which will include having guests from both the parish and school community back in the building.
